Why I don't fall in love?

I was supposed to write something else for work, but here I am writing a long poem on why I Dont fall in love.

Why I don’t fall in love?

A question that I have been asked a lot,
A question that has always hit a nerve,
Shashank, can you please tell me.
Why in god’s earth you don’t fall in love?

Why , Indeed, is the question that ask myself.
Is it because when girls say hi,
I mumble , look down at my shoes,
Say something totally incoherent,
And wished all she said was bye.

Or is it because,
Of the wounds that open up,
When someone says hi,
Fearing the impending goodbye.

Is it because of those probing eyes,
Or is because of that sunbathed smile,
Is it because she looks like the most beautiful girl on earth,
Even when she is ill,
And me, well, like a terrorist sent to kill.

When I was 17,
I took this girl on a date,
We were going out for three months now,
And everything was much better than great.
Her beauty was like that of the moon,
You envision in clearest of dreams,
And if her skin was like milk,
Her hair was like silk,
Smelling like strawberries dipped in cream,
Infact, whenever I was asked to described her,
It seemed less like a ballad,
And more like I was dating a fruit salad.

I was deeply engrossed in her eyes,
While she was gorging this chicken burger with french fries.
Once the eating was over,
We went to the counter for the meal,
That was too soon to be over.
Now this was the thing about which I was most weary,
The things printed in that bill seemed too scary.
I was self defensive,
Or a miser as you would call it,
Specially for a guy who had more dust,
Than money in his wallet.
Eight hundred rupees, the bill read,
I thought that I died a slow little death.
However, I thought I was in love,
And I was time I made a little exception.
And things as they go,
Two years later, I was single and heart-broken,
in a room watching inception.

10 years later,
I was sitting beside an hospital bed,
There she was lying around,
And fighting with her fate,
Life was anything,
But great.

I was silent at first,
But then got to talking,
She was still funny, charming and always joking.
She was like a sunshine, in the rain,
And inside me there was a storm brewing, an impending hurricane.
Soon the doctor came to room,
With a file in his hand,
Now this is the thing about which I was most weary,
The contents of the file were too scary.
There he was spelling out her fate,
The most exquisite ballad dancer,
Was suffering from a fourth stage terminal cancer.
My world came crashing down,
I thought I would just break in tension,
Then I found some courage inside me,
And thought,
She needed me, I need to make an exception.
After that, I visited the hospital rather frequently with her,
Taking her around this wheelchair.
Thinking why she can’t be mine,
While I made sure I was gentle,
So as to not hurt her chemical infused spine.
She died 2 months later,
I lost the love of my life,
And probably my future wife.

So when people ask me,
Shashank, why on god’s earth you don’t fall in love?
I tell them this,
And they soon turn silent,
Like that painting in the museum of that beautiful sun bathed dove.
Like the painting, they want to say a lot,
But then, I change the topic
And let my feelings rot

That is the answer my friend,
Of why I don’t fall in love.

Of why I don’t fall in love.

India's 5 Greatest ODI Victories

So a few days ago, I was watching this series of videos from Harsha Bhogle where he was reminiscing the five best test victories for team India. I wanted to do the same for one day’s. Now when you sit down and think about the best 5 five games, you can probably count 10. There are so many marquee games that come to mind. I think This will be difficult. But let me try. So there goes my list of top 5 ODI games for India.

5) 28th February 2012, India vs Sri Lanka

India started well in the series with wins over Sri lanka and Australia , then tied a game with sri lanka and lost two versus Australia. All this meant that India had to win its last game with sri lanka with a bonus point and then, hope Australia defeats Sri lanka to qualify for the finals. India won the toss and chose to field. What this meant was whatever, Sri Lanka put on board India had to chase it down in 40 overs or less to get a bonus point. It was a good batting wicket in hobart and India would have wanted to get sri lanka out for less than 250. But, what followed was master class from Dilshan and Sangakkara. They amassed 320 for 4 in the allotted 50 overs. India needed to chase 321 in 40 overs with an asking rate of 8 from the onset to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. And what followed was a master class from Kohli. He scored 133 in 86 balls. The best death bowler at the time, Lasith malinga went for 96 runs in his 7 overs. This match showed the changing mentality of India cricket. But, above all it showed fearlessness , a new spirit in the team. Never say die attitude was exhilarating to see. We knew then that Indian cricket had come of age then. Gone were the days where we would have surrendered to huge targets and now we could any challenge head on.

4) Desert Storm at Sharjah, 1998

Just shy of his 25th birthday, Sachin had achieved a lot in his short career but that innings was something else. Chasing a target of 285 in 50 overs, India needed 254 runs to trump New Zealand on Net Run Rate and qualify for the final. And as was the case in those days, we Indians had thought of that as our only target. We thought let us somehow score that 254 and qualify for the finals. I was 6 then, so obviously didn’t watch the game live. However, years later I saw it in a little 1 hour episode of cricket classics on ten sports. I didn’t knew what had happened in the game. So I watched with bated breath to see if we can reach 254. And then Sachin happened. From fleming to Warne, Everyone was smacked left right and centre. I think that day only one Indian was thinking of 285 and not 254 and that was Sachin Tendulkar. And mind you, If the desert storm didn’t come and break his peak concentration, who knows he might have done it. We lost 4 overs to the storm. Needed 236 in 46 now. Sachin got out on 242 and we lost that match but qualified for the finals. Sachin scored 143 in 130 odd bowls, a strike rate of over 100 was almost unheard of back then.

3) July 13, 2002 vs England, Natwest Trophy final

I was 10 at the time and was a huge cricket fanatic by then. I remember that clearly, India came into the tournament after a string of loses in the finals. A lot of people questioned India’s temperament in big games. The game started, England batted first on beautiful sunny day at lords. What followed was two centuries from Trescothik and Naseer Hussain. Naseer Hussain was under a lot of criticism , that he cant bat at number 3 for england. I remember him pointing at the number 3 written on the back of his t-shirt after scoring the hundred, as if to say he belongs there. India was set a target of 326 runs in 50 overs. India raced to 100 in 14 overs with sehwag and ganguly belting the english bowlers. Then came the come back , we lost 5 wickets for 40 odd runs. At 146-5, when sachin was bowled by ashley giles, I switched off my Tv set. A 10 year old boy, teary eyed, went back to watch something else with his family. I missed almost 1 hour of the game, where two boys were playing like men. Yuvraj Singh and mohammad kaif, fresh off the under 19 world cup win, were playing innings of their life. And then I switched on the TV set, As soon as I did, yuvraj got out on 69. Trying to play dab to fine leg, got a top edge and short fine leg took an easy catch. He was distraught. He walked so slowly to the dressing room, harsha bhogle who was on commentary at the time said it would take a crane to take him off the ground. Kaif was playing well with harbhajan singh. The turbanator hit a one hand six on the leg side. Then we lost two back to back wickets to flintoff. The game was very much in the balance, with zaheer khan and kaif, we somehow scraped over the line. I was exhilarated and so was ganguly. I was so proud of the Indian team. Mind you it was england, where we had a tendency of giving it away. From teary eyes at 146-5 to teary eyes at 326-8, life had turned a full circle for me.

2) April 2, 2011 vs Sri Lanka, World cup final

I was preparing for my JEE exam, which was scheduled to be 11th. I woke up at 4 in the morning, studied till 2:30 pm, and then saw the toss. India were bowling, put the TV on mute and started studying again. The whole Sri lankan innings was watched on mute, mostly studying with a glance or two every 10-15 minutes to just check the score. Mehela jayawardene, score a brilliant hundred. When you set 275 to chase in world cup final, you are almost 60-40 ahead in the game. And with, 31 for 2 match was all but over. My heart sank. Sehwag and Sachin were in great form throughout the tournament. WE had a very worrisome middle order, with dhoni woefully out of touch. Yuvraj was in prime form and I had no doubts even then that he would be the man of the tournament. But, what did dhoni do? He came in ahead of yuvraj and scored a match winning 90 odd to win the only world cup win I watch live. Wow, what feeling that was. But in all that, we forget a little young man from delhi who scored a 97 when the team was struggling. Gautam gambhir’s innings that day was pure class and often forgotten in the blistering inning played by dhoni.

1) India vs West Indies, lords, 1983 world cup final

So which world cup final was India’s greatest? Many people of my generation would rank MSD’s victory greater than that of kapil dev’s. But, for me this was the best moment for India in its ODI history. Rank underdogs, playing the best team in the world. The dibbly dobbly pacers that we had vs the mighty marshal and holding. It was david v/s goliath in the truest sense, and we were no goliath. Setting 184 to win in 60 overs to batting line up boasting of the likes of vivian richards, haynes, loyd and greenidge, at the mid break everyone thought India will lose. But, We had other plans. Turning point of the game, was that backward running catch taken by kapil dev to dismiss Viv Richards. The ball was in the air for eternity, but our captain took one of the best catches ever, and this turned the tide in our favour. We won the world cup, and the kapil dev’s team inspired a generation of cricketers. We are a cricketing nation, because of that victory and it would turn out to shape the sporting landscape of a country of 1 billion people. This was where it all started and this is where my list will end.

Aaj Teesra Din Hai

Ankhen khul gye meri,
Hogya mai fir zinda,
Is 4 dewaari mai,
Saamp ke jaisa rengta khayal aya,
Aaj teesra din hai,
Aaj teesra din hai...

Bistar pe mai hun leta,
Bhook bht tez lag rhi hai,
Samne ki khidki se,
Tez dhoop aa rhi hai,
Parden hain nhi khidki pe,
Nauk jaise chub rhi hai,
Kash mai uth pata ,
Par ab himmat nhi bachi hai,
Aaj teesra din hai,
aaj teesra din hai…

Ek patli si gali pr chal rha hun mai,
Dono taraf dukane hai,
Kuch kuch bech rhi hai,
Barik barik akshar mai keematen likh rakhi hain,
Par ab padh nhi sakta mai,
Dur ek kaune mai ek nal dhikayi deta hai,
Sochta hun mai,
Ek ghoont pani pi,

THE PROPOSAL

Sanaya, that was the name he had in mind as he was driving his car to his favorite restaurant. He first met her on a holiday to an exotic country. The moons delicate light had just turned the world a-flame with silver when he first saw her. She had a comely figure which was stem-thin. Her curvilinear waist didn’t surprise him as much as the saffron tint to her complexion. She must be a native, he thought to myself. Her crescent shaped eyebrows inclined slightly as she saw him staring at her. He yelped at being caught. Her languid eyelashes of velvet-black blinked once slowly, as if to invite him over.
When he came closer, he noticed her scrolled ears and her elegant nose. It was love at first light. Her luminous, heavenly-white teeth flashed as she pawed at him with her film star nails. Her hair was a glorious tumble of star beam-gold and her virility-brown eyes set my heart a-thump. Her oxbow lips positively drooled with goodness. Oh! Those sugar candy-sweet lips, her elegant personality, all mesmerized him. And when he was caught drooling over her, she in her own innocent way shied away. He may have been one of the richest guys in India, a man who was an epitome of resilience., but in front of her he was as vulnerable as a person in love. Was it that? Love? Or was it just a crush? Who knew? But it wasn’t something he had never experienced. And when he heard her saccharine voice, he was in another place. It has been 2 years since that day, and he was ready to pop the question today.
Ayan was the kind of man sanaya always wanted in her life. Sanaya was meeting ayan today in his favorite restaurant. A little chinese joint, where they both loved to meet. But, today it was different. Sanaya was a little late and when she reached, ayan was already there sitting on his favorite table , lost in thoughts. He had tousled dark brown hair, which was thick and lustrous. His eyes were a mesmerizing deep ocean blue, flecks of silvery light performed ballets throughout. His face was strong and defined, his features molded from granite. He had dark eye brows, which sloped downwards in a serious expression. His usually playful smile had drawn into a hard line across his face. His perfect lips ripe for the kissing. She came stood in front of table. Ayan got up. His strong hands, slightly rough from working, held hers as he stared deep into her eyes. Sanaya couldn't help but blush. His smile etched it’s way back into his face. His body was warm and toned as he hugged her, comforting to the touch. His voice was deep, with an serious tone. His lips brushed her ear as he spoke, "I really do love you." Those five words set off a cascade of complex emotions , many of which were due to the fact that sanaya was irrevocably in love with the man in front of him. It was her first love. For her it was like a being on the best rollercoaster ride ever. In the very beginning, you climb in and think "I can't believe I'm doing this, what the hell was I thinking, maybe this isn't such a good idea, blah, blah, blah" except at some point, it's too late for backing out because you're moving. And you're climbing and then spinning and looping all crazy and the thoughts are that you're pretty sure you're going to survive because how many deaths are there, really, from people falling out of roller coasters? But you don't really know because you never really paid too much attention to rollercoaster fatality statistics because you weren't into riding roller coasters. Until now. And every twist and hairpin turn is exciting and you realize you're enjoying every scary minute and you start to just let go and trust...no, you start to truly believe...that you're definitely going to make it. Except there's always that "gotcha" turn when the bottom drops out and your stomach lurches, but then you're back flying again and you're laughing your head off because you made it and you're alive and this is all the most real stuff there is. And the ride begins to slow just a little bit, and the turns and twists are more like echoes of the stomach-turning ones from before, but you're okay with that. You're okay with everything. And  you're pulling into the place where you started from, smiling, happy, enriched, and knowing you're right where you always wanted to be. Ayan was thinking of getting married for the second time. He got married 7 years earlier to Preeti. It was an arranged marriage. Preeti and ayan were poles apart. They had nothing in common. Despite of a lot of trying, marriage counselor sessions, and what not , they finally got divorced 3 years later. The proposal itself was the most cliched proposal that can be. The waiter brought in their favorite red wine. There was a ring in one of the glasses. A gloriously cut diamond, set like a crown on 24 carat golden ring. There was this royalty in the ring, but above all there was love. A love that would last longer than the shining golden jewel.  Sanaya was slowly gulping the wine, when she realised what was happening and there was ayan on his knees waiting to to say those 4 words “Will you marry me?” . She was happy yet she was crying. She was engulfed by a complex set of emotions, one where she didn;t knew what to feel. The only thing that was on her mind was the love she had for ayan and before even completing the sentence she said yes. The saccharin smile on the faces of ayan and sanaya, made one believe that true love can conquer any sorrow , depression and sadness. It was just two years ago, before sanaya met ayan that sanaya’s world had come falling down on her. Her father, her philosopher and guide, passed away. Grief, sadness, loss... engulfed her. She felt Worthless, weeping, disparity, failure, apathy, nothingness, empty, numb, broken when she would crumble to the floor and just give up. She was afraid , terrified of facing this world alone with no one to bank on.  Grief can seem like an unbearable experience. But for those of us who have entered the broken world of loss and sorrow, we realize that in the fractured landscape of grief we can find the pieces of our life that we ourselves have forgotten. It was in this fractured landscape of grief, that sanaya met ayan.
They had the dinner , and ayan was taking sanaya back to her place. It was late in the night, The couple was walking hand in hand and enjoying the full moon that had brightened the night. Suddenly, a thief appeared out of nowhere. He had a gun in his hand. He wanted them to empty their purse and give everything they had. Sanaya tried hiding her ring , but the thief was sharp. He asked her to give the ring to. “No, Not the ring said ayan. He was willing to give anything but the ring. But the thief was in no mood to let go off it. Ayan made a move towards the gun, thief in his reflexes pulled the trigger, the bullet went straight into ayan’s chest. Thief left everything and ran away. Sanaya was numb. She saw his pulse dropping. Blood was oozing out of his chest. He will not survive this, she knew. Sanaya had tears in her eyes.
“Please don’t cry. Not today”, said ayan.
“Please don’t leave me like this. “ , she responded.
“Promise me you will find someone else. SomeOne who will make you smile. Someone who will be with you every step of the way.”, he asked.
“I promise.”, she said with her eyes full of tears.
“I Love y…..” , with these words he closed his eyes. His pulse had stopped. He was gone.

She caught her breath. Ayan was dead. Thief had shot him. She looked at the ground where his body lay. Time seemed to stop. A boiling fury swelled inside of her, and the physical pain was suddenly too much to bare. She screamed and fell to the ground, tears covering her dirt stained face. She bled with her as he dies, the warmth from his body seeped out of him into the earth leaving behind a cold empty husk. “Some people are never meant to be happy”, she thought. Her first love died 2 year back, her second one lay dead before her, as if her love was a deathwish.. The bright full moon , was now behind the clouds. There was a frightening darkness all over. Just like the darkness sanya left in sanaya’s life.

Good bye How I Met Your Mother

Just finished How I Met Your Mother season finale.I have so many emotions and thoughts rambling through my mind.First, of all its been an amazing journey.3-4 years for me and 9 years for many of you guys.I was this bright, young guy just out of school ,having so many ambitions of conquering the world when i started watching the show.Back then, i thought life was this fairy tale and good things happen to everyone and everybody is good they just need to be given the atmosphere so that the goodness can come out. Oh yes,I was naive. And now the show has come to an end. What an escape it has served for me from the boring ,sometimes terrible life. To know that I can watch this show and i will laugh my guts out no matter how terrible my life is. It has been one hell of a ride and i have enjoyed every bit of it.
This was the first(and only) show I followed religiously and probably the last one. And yeah i have laughed,i have cried,i have felt sad and i have felt rejuvenated .I cried when barney broke up with Nora and asked robin to do the same with Kevin but she didnt. I cried when ted was left at the altar. I laughed when barney used to pull tricks out of his playbook.I laughed hysterically at times. It has been a surreal experience to say the least.
The best part is the show was so relate-able.Haven't every one met a hopeless romantic in their life(ted), or a delusional and funny guy like barney, or a career oriented go-getter like robin or a lovely couple like Marshall and Lily. Yes, everyone has met each and every kind of person mentioned in the list above. And if you haven't then you need to live a lot more. It has taught a lot about life to me. People come , people go. They do everything to make you happy. And then dont even remember you on your birthday. They say you are the most important person in their life and throw you away as you were nothing. Some people stay for few days and some stay for more. No matter how much we try and hold on to those people they will soon be gone .And its not necessarily a bad thing.  You were with them for brief yet unforgettable time and no matter what happens , no matter how the things ended no one no one can take it away from you.Never ever in your life forget that on one day , you will step out of your front door and your life will change forever. Away from all the disappointments your life will soon change and it will be all happy and sad and funny and gloomy .But , above all it will be a life worth living with 100's of stories to tell. Whats the point of having lived a life if you cannot tell all that you did in your life to your children or your grand children. So live like you want, go big ,trust people, laugh hysterically,do stupid things ,cry , get hurt , work hard, party harder, do everything you want to,trust people, love them ,many will not be worth your love(i have found many in my journey) but who knows one fine day someone worth it will come and make a dull boring thing that you call life worth living. And lastly no matter what life throws at you remember if you were honest with people and others were not ,you did everything you could to keep them in your life, and still were not able to,let them go dont let it break you.To have that emotional endurance needed to get yourself out of that loneliness and heartache will be tough but in the end it'll be worth it. It'll be fine in the end. It'll be great but till then keeping living keep learning and keep laughing at your troubles because one fucking day they will be over and you will be happy. Make friends make tonnes of them because they will all be a part of those stories you will be telling 50 years from now.And if you havent done anything mentioned above till now.Go out right  now, no matter how sad your life is.Look at the stars, the moon, feel the chill of the wind and you will know life may be sad right now but its beautiful and it will remain so forever. And above anything love everyone around you because "love is the best thing we do" .

Its been one hell of a journey and HIMYM you will be missed.

Khud ko tha mai ranbeer smjhta, Katrina si woh lagti thi...

Writing after a long time. One of my oldest poem.Hope you like it :)

1st year ki masti thi,
apni bhi alag tab hasti thi...
khud ko tha main ranbeer samjhta,
katrina si woh lagti thi...!

ek baar kabhi anjaane begaane no. se call mjhe aaie,
ek meethi se awaaz receiver se aaie,
physics ke notes dede mujhe,
yeh! instruction introduction se pehle aaie...

ushki awaaz ne mujhko aisa mohya,
bhramachari sa vyakti ladki ke khwabon mai khoya,
20 minute tak north gate pe ruka aur soya,
metro tak sath chalenge mann mein ye sapna tha boya...

tabhi rickshaw se ek apsara utri,
notes liye, ushi rickshaw mein baithi aur chaldi...
north gate ke guard ne dekha aur bola,
bhaiya! tera toh bohot bade wala katta hai hoya...

ek pyaari si hasi hoton pe fir bhi khila krti thi,
jab bhi nesci ya zayca mai woh apsara mujhko mila krti thi,
khud ko tha main ranbeer samjhta,
katrina si woh lagti thi...!

samay ka pahiya aisa ghuma,
end sem aane lage,
physics ki relativity,
chemistry ki electro-negativity,
english ki subjectivity,
metals ki weld-ability,
maths ki complexity,

sab main sir aisa ghuma,
katrina ko akela chodd,
jaggi mathur ke maths ko tha bas maine chuma,

after that to impress my katrina,
i went to a showroom and bought a new puma,

(koi line jaa nhi rhi thi)
exam times mein kabhi-kabhi
e.d ke doubts woh mujse pucha krti thi,
doubts ka answer dene ke chakkar mein,
e.d bhi aasaan laga krti thi,
side view; top view; front view ki uljhone ko suljhane ke bad bhi
sardi ki dhoop si mujhe woh lagti thi,
khud ko tha mai ranbeer samjhta,
katrina si woh lgti thi...!

ek din school ke dost ka col aya,
pucha humare sath ambience ghumne aega?
maine bhi jhath se han bola,
mje kya pta tha yeh han mjhe baad mai bht sataega,
doston k sath tha gadi mai, tabhi phone baja,
kisko pta tha pebbles ka col tabhi hi aaega,
phne uthaya to dost sataenge, kat diya toh ldki naraaaz,
kisne socha tha aisa trivial sa dilemma bhi ek din,
jee cleared student ko sataega,
tbhi bahana mara,ki mum ka col aya h,
kisne socha tha ki ladki se baat krne k style se,
kiska phone tha doston ko pta chl jaega,
15 minute baat hui,phne rkha,
tbhi piche se awaaz ayi,
beta rehne do...!! tumse naaa ho paega...!!

bohot achi dost ban gyi thi woh,
sukh dukh ki sathi woh lagti thi,
khud ko tha main ranbeer samjhta,
katrina si woh lgti thi...!

ek din usne mjhe electronics padhaya,
tbhi uske crush ka call aaya,
mera ek ek ansun amplify hogya,
ignore kiya woh call aur uski aknhon mai kahin kho gya,
phone rkha usne meri meri taraf pyar sa smile kiya,
mjhe tbhi lga shayad uska dil mere dil k sath 0 degree in phase hgya....

jab usne diya class mai answer,
ushki sureele awaaz mein kahin kho gya,
low pass high pass ka toh pta nhi,
par mera dil band pas filter hogya,
ab toh uski awaaaz kano mai resonate hone lagti thi,
khud ko tha mai ranbeer smjhta,
katrina si woh lagti thi...!

4th sem tak ate ate,
d.s ka subject agya,
avl tress ka insertn deletion upar se bypass hogya,
uske pas gya mai doubt leke,
usne aisa smjhya,
ki O(logn) ka to pta nhi,
dil mera O(1) mai uska hgya...

ab toh sali recursion bhi easy si lagne lgti thi,
khud ko tha main ranbeer samjhta,
katrina si woh lagti thi...!

ladai hui use fir,
shayad galti bhi meri thi,
baat honi band ho gayi,
dosti bhi apni shayad maili thi..
dil mein basaya tha jisko,
aaj use wahan se nikalne ki koshish krne lga,
dil tha sala mera,
par property uski hi lagti thi...

khud ko hun ab bhi ranbeer smjhta,
katrina si ab bhi woh lgti h,
khud ko hu ab bhi ranbeer smjhta,
katrina si ab bhi woh lgti h...!

so that's it..its a long one..i hope u like it :)
P.s: the poem is purely fictitious and any resemblance  to any person living or dead is purely coincidental :)

Codeforces Round #228 (Div. 2)

This is my first editorial for the Codeforces rounds...please share your views....as to how it can be improved...the coding round was held on 3rd February form 9:00 pm IST to 11:00 pm IST

The contest was held on codeforces and the dashboard can be found here . I will now be discussing the algorithm that i used for each question and how did I implement the solutions.

A.FOX AND NUMBER GAME.

The question was really easy. However i thought of a little complex solution for it and thus wasted a lot of time debugging.Got only 458 points for it and wasted 21 minutes on it.

Question:

The question was we were given and array of n numbers.let is be a such that of 1<=a[i]<=100.Now we had an operation to chose any two indexes of the array i and j such that a[i]>a[j] and do the operation a[i]=a[i]-a[j].We can do as many operations on a single element as we want. Now we were supposed to output the least possible sum of all such elements after application of all the operation. It can be found here.

example:
input
3
2 4 6
output
6

Explanation: we chose 6 and do a[2]=6-4=2
and then we do a[1]=4-2=2
so array becomes 2 2 2
and sum is 6 and hence the answer.

Idea:

The idea was very simple.I needed to subtract the largest number smaller than the given number from the given number in the array until such a subtraction wasnt possible anymore. So what i did was maintained a frequency array to maintain the count of all the number occurring in the array and then started from the max number  and kept on subtracting from the largest number smaller than the number in the array until the subtraction was possible i.e a smaller number than the result of the operation existed in the array.

B.FOX AND CROSS

Again the question was really easy. And it took less time to be completed than the 1st ques itself.I submitted it in like 14 after i submitted A and got 860 points for it.

Question:

Fox Ciel has a board with n rows and n columns. So, the board consists of n × n cells. Each cell contains either a symbol '.', or a symbol '#'.
A cross on the board is a connected set of exactly five cells of the board that looks like a cross. The picture below shows how it looks.
Ciel wants to draw several (may be zero) crosses on the board. Each cross must cover exactly five cells with symbols '#', and any cell with symbol '#' must belong to some cross. No two crosses can share a cell.
Please, tell Ciel if she can draw the crosses in the described way.

Sample test(s)
input
5
.#...
####.
.####
...#.
.....
output
YES

IDEA:

Idea was again very simple.I checked for every # in the array if it was the center of any cross as shown above in the picture. If it was i removed all the '#' of the cross and replaced it by '.'.Now i again checked the 2-d array to see if there were any '#' left.If there were the answer was 'NO' else it was 'YES'.

C.FOX AND BOX ACCUMULATION

Question:

Fox Ciel has n boxes in her room. They have the same size and weight, but they might have different strength. The i-th box can hold at most xi boxes on its top (we'll call xi the strength of the box).
Since all the boxes have the same size, Ciel cannot put more than one box directly on the top of some box. For example, imagine Ciel has three boxes: the first has strength 2, the second has strength 1 and the third has strength 1. She cannot put the second and the third box simultaneously directly on the top of the first one. But she can put the second box directly on the top of the first one, and then the third box directly on the top of the second one. We will call such a construction of boxes a pile.
Fox Ciel wants to construct piles from all the boxes. Each pile will contain some boxes from top to bottom, and there cannot be more than xi boxes on the top of i-th box. What is the minimal number of piles she needs to construct?
Sample test(s)
input
3
0 0 10
output
2
In example 1, one optimal way is to build 2 piles: the first pile contains boxes 1 and 3 (from top to bottom), the second pile contains only box 2.

IDEA:

I struggled with this problem a lot.Initially i tried to put the largest strength box at the bottom and then put a box with either equal strength or a lower strength on top of it and then count number of such piles. However it was failing on this case
3
0 0 0 1 1 1 2 2 10

it gave the output as 5.However the output for this will be 3.The stacks or piles for the given test can be arranged as:
pile 1: 10=>1=>0
pile 2: 2=>1=>0
pile 3: 2=>1=>0

I tried various variants of my algorithm but almost all of them failed on pretest cases 10 and 11.Then a friend of mine suggested what if we did the reverse.Chose the lowest strength box and then put the larger strength boxes below it.I tried implementing it and it worked. All the pretests passed. The solution passed system testing too.
So for the above test case this would work as follows:

PILE 1: we will 1st use box of strength 0.Now we have to use a box of strength 1 or greater than 1 as the size of the pile is 1.So we put box of strength 1 below the 1st box. After that applying the same logic till I cannot not put any more boxes below the last one I get my 1st pile as
10=>2=>1=>0
repeating the above algo we get
PILE 3:
2=>1=>0
PILE 1:
1=>0
so we get three piles and thus the algorithm works fine for the given test case.
The code to this problem can be found here.

RESULT:

I was not able to do D and E questions .Also, i wasted a lot of time in A and C.I need to work on my speed and accuracy.Overall i was not happy with my performance but than it was not bad at all.Finished 666.I hope you guys benefit from this Editorial. If there are any mistakes please point out in the comments section below. This was my first such editorial and i hope you  guys like it.Till the next time bye bye!!
